VRESTORE THE FREEDMEN’S BUREAU WITH CANNABIS
THE U.S. FREEDMEN’S BUREAU was a U.S. federal governmental agency established by President Abraham Lincoln on March 3, 1865. The Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, also known as the "Freedmen's Bureau" was intended to last for 1 year. However, it was quickly disclosed that additional time and resources would be necessary to adequately support over 4 million homeless slaves in "all subjects relating to their
condition." Funding for the Bureau was drawn from the U.S. War Department's 1865 budget.
The Bureau was headed by distinguished civil war veteran General Oliver O. Howard and staffed with over 900 agents, but many became
corrupted by power. The Freedmen's Bureau had it's own judicial authority, with local agents setting up 3 man courts to hear disputes, many between white employees who were now forced to compete with black employees now demanding fair wages. Whites subsequently formed labor unions to exclude Black workers institutionally.
The Bureau was also tasked with distributing confiscated and abandoned lands after the Cilvil War to former SLAVES as they struggled to craft lives in a free America. "Forty acres and a mule" was the slogan for the reconstruction land-grant plan which was issued to 3,500 families in South Carolina and Georgia before the Bureau was dissolved. Sadly, the land was returned to southern white's by President Andrew Johnson.
On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated after freeing the slaves. His successor, President Andrew Johnson was a poor racist from the slave holding state of Tennessee who was also the first president to be impeached. He resented the freed slaves and supported the rise of the KKK and restoration of the southern states over any Federal protection for the rights of America’s newly emancipated BLACK SLAVES.
In 1866, Congress renewed the charter for the Bureau but Johnson vetoed the legislation and in 1872 the Freedmen’s Bureau, plagued by corruption was abruptly abandoned and shut down. At the time it was believed the closure was only temporary and war resources drawn by the Bureau were now needed to “settle” a dispute between the Apache Indian’s and White settlers. The Freedmen's
Bureau was never reinstated again despite the deplorable treatment of Blacks in America historically.
The Reconstruction era gave way to Black Codes, to Jim Crow Laws, to the Prison Industrial Complex, unjust societal ills continue to plague America and the descendants of slaves still without proper resources. The United States of America has a broken treaty with the descendants of the African Slaves still struggling to achieve equality in a land that no longer requires their free labor. Slaves never got the promise of 40 acres and a mule.
PROBLEM: THE FREEDMAN’S BUREAU WAS ABOLISHED PREMATURELY TO PROVIDE WAR FUNDS TO FIGHT AGAINST NATIVE AMERICANS.
THE RESULTING EFFECT HAS LEFT BLACKS AT THE BOTTOM OF AMERICAN SOCIETY AS A PERMANENT UNDERCLASS.

THE FREEDMEN OF U.S. SLAVERY
Listen to Dr. Martin Luther King speak on America's broken promise and
opportunities denied the descendants of slavery. Dr. King and his Poor People's Campaign planned a march on Washington to illuminate the issues plaguing poor Blacks.
Many believe that it was King's campaign for the poor that ultimately claimed his life.
The story of salt baron John Hart Crenshaw the wealthiest man in the free state of Illinois. He was also a notorious slave master who bred and leased Blacks to neighboring free states. Abraham Lincoln kept a bedroom in Crenshaw's Hickory Hill estate which is now said to be one of the most haunted houses in America. Like in the film 12 years a slave, when tried for his crimes, Crenshaw prevailed on the basis that Blacks were chattle property and could not win in a court of law. His Hickory Hill estate is nationally recognized as a stop on the Reverse Underground railroad for kidnapping free Blacks and forcing them into slavery.
